Leil Saunas

ThermoWood® is pine or spruce that has been heat-treated at temperatures above 185°C in a steam-nitrogen environment. This process permanently alters the wood's cell structure, dramatically reducing moisture absorption and biological degradation. The result is a wall material that is 3–5x more dimensionally stable than untreated pine, resistant to rot and mould without chemical preservatives, and an excellent thermal insulator. Leil uses 40mm ThermoWood® walls across its entire outdoor lineup, making the saunas genuinely suited to year-round outdoor use in all climates.

Most Leil kits can be assembled by two adults in 4–8 hours. Panels are pre-cut and numbered with a tongue-and-groove joinery system, and all required hardware is included. The Como indoor models are generally quicker (4–5 hours) due to their simpler profile. The Viva outdoor cabin models and Black Cube series take slightly longer due to the external cladding and roofing elements, but no specialist carpentry skills or power tools are required beyond a standard drill.

Leil sauna kits are sold as the cabin structure only — benches, walls, roof, door, and trim are included, but the heater is purchased separately. This gives you full flexibility to choose between a wood-burning stove or an electric heater, and to select the output (kW) matched to your specific model's cubic volume. We recommend specifying your model when ordering to ensure the right heater pairing.

The Leil Como series requires a 240V/20–30A dedicated circuit for the electric heater (not included). The cabin structure itself has no electrical draw — all wiring is for the heater and its digital control panel. A licensed electrician should install the dedicated circuit prior to heater hookup. Most residential homes can accommodate this without a panel upgrade. Wood-burning configurations require no electrical installation at all, only proper flue/chimney routing through the ceiling or wall.

Yes. The Viva and Black Cube series are built specifically for permanent outdoor installation in all climates. The 40mm ThermoWood® walls resist moisture absorption, the EPDM-sealed roofing prevents water ingress, and the thermo-treated exterior cladding is dimensionally stable in freeze-thaw cycles. An annual application of UV-protective oil or stain is recommended to preserve the natural wood appearance, but structural integrity is unaffected without it. The Black Cube's all-black thermally modified exterior is particularly weather-resistant and requires minimal finishing maintenance.

The Como series is designed for indoor installation — compact, rectangular cabins (2–4 person) with a contemporary tempered glass front panel and Aspen interior. The Viva series is an outdoor cabin-style sauna with a traditional sloped roof, porch/overhang design, and thermo-alder interior — it blends into a garden or backyard setting naturally. The Black Cube series is a bold, architectural outdoor cube with an all-black thermally modified exterior, large windows, and a modern Nordic aesthetic. All three use the same 40mm ThermoWood® wall construction and traditional high-heat sauna design.

Leil outdoor models require a level, load-bearing base capable of supporting 800–1,500 lbs depending on model size. A concrete slab, reinforced deck, or compacted gravel pad on pressure-treated timber bearers are all suitable. The base must be perfectly level — even 1° of tilt will affect door alignment and wall seam integrity over time. Leil recommends a minimum 100mm clearance between the base and any soil contact to prevent moisture wicking. Most installers use 4x4 or 6x6 pressure-treated sleepers on a compacted aggregate base as the most accessible DIY foundation option.

Interior maintenance is minimal: wipe down Aspen and thermo-alder benches with a damp cloth after sessions, sand lightly once or twice a year to refresh the surface, and never apply sealants or varnishes to interior wood — traditional saunas breathe. For outdoor models, inspect EPDM roof seals annually and apply a UV-protective exterior oil every 1–2 years to maintain appearance. The ThermoWood® structure itself requires no chemical treatment. Clean the heater regularly per manufacturer instructions and check door seal integrity each season.

Leil saunas are engineered for authentic traditional Finnish sauna temperatures: 160–195°F (70–90°C) at bench level. The 40mm ThermoWood® walls and double-layer insulated ceiling retain heat efficiently, meaning the sauna reaches target temperature in 30–45 minutes depending on heater output. Unlike infrared saunas which operate at 120–140°F, Leil traditional saunas produce the high-heat environment required for genuine löyly (steam from water poured on hot stones) and the full cardiovascular and detoxification response associated with traditional sauna bathing.

Leil Saunas provides a manufacturer's structural warranty on all cabin components. The ThermoWood® wall panels, roofing structure, benches, and door assembly are covered against manufacturing defects. As an authorised Leil dealer, Peak Primal Wellness also provides full after-sale support for any warranty claims. Note that the heater (purchased separately) carries its own manufacturer warranty — HUUM and Harvia both offer 2–5 year heater warranties. Yes — all Leil models are compatible with wood-burning sauna stoves. The kit includes a pre-cut flue opening (or the opening can be cut to your chosen position). A wood-burning configuration eliminates electrical installation entirely, making it ideal for rural properties, off-grid setups, or anyone who prefers the traditional wood-fired sauna experience. You'll need to source and install a compatible wood stove and flue system — our team can recommend appropriately sized stoves for each Leil model on request.

Leil kits offer better material quality and customisation than most pre-built cabins at comparable price points. Pre-built cabins are manufactured at scale with thinner wall construction (often 28–35mm) and lower-grade softwood that is more susceptible to warping. Leil's 40mm ThermoWood® walls, thermo-alder interior grade, and European manufacturing tolerances produce a sauna that performs and lasts like a custom-built unit. The trade-off is a half-day of assembly — which most buyers consider worthwhile given the 20–30% cost savings versus a fully pre-assembled equivalent.
